Katherine Dunn

I discovered Katherine Dunn when I came across her Creative Illustration Workshop book and had to have it. I love the whimsical yet earthy nature of her work full of animals. Her mixed media pieces are reminiscent of some of Chagall’s paintings to me, but softer. Reading her book made me remember the feeling of the creative impulse and about the myriad extraordinary subjects around. Pumpkins and Paper Cuts

What a perfect way to kick of this blog than by featuring an image by Nikki McClure! Ever since I saw her works at Octopus Books (in Ottawa), I’ve been compelled to go back to her website periodically. I love how she captures depth and simplicity at the same time in her pieces.
